Children love different types of music; your voice, a musical toy, a tape or CD, objects around the house that can be used as instruments . . . even sounds that you can hear outside that have a rhythm and best.

Make music a part of your normal routine. Babies may not sing words, but your rhythm, melody, and movement capture their attention. As they grow they may imitate what you do. Young toddlers love to participate with clapping and bouncing. They recognize familiar tunes and musical toys and may try to dance or babble along with you. Older toddlers love to feel the excitement of accomplishment when they know the words.

Music is important to your child's development. Music:

bullet Provides sensory stimulation and multi-sensory learning.
bullet Involves hearing, seeing, feeling, touching, and moving.
bullet Improves speech and language skills.
bullet Improves vocabulary and auditory awareness.
bullet Improves pattern recognition and sequence understanding.
bullet Increases social interaction and fosters self-expression.
bullet Promotes brain development.
bullet Aids in developing higher thinking skills such as logic, spatial reasoning, and math problem solving.

Music is an ideal outlet to aid in all areas of development. Music is great for learning, bonding, and creativity, but best of all, it is fun!

The Family Center has compiled a songbook full of songs, rhymes, and fingerplays. Cost is $4.00 each and all proceeds go to support our center. Makes a great gift!
